ATP and WTA tennis stars back in action this week

Serena Williams has barely recovered from her Wimbledon victory and she is back in action already this week.

Barely 24 hours have passed since Andy Murray wiped his tears and Roger Federer lifted the trophy for the seventh time at Wimbledon yet further tennis action is taking place this week around the globe.  For those players who exited Wimbledon early who have rested up and enjoyed the holidays, this week it is time for them to pick up their racquets once more and compete again in a mixture of grass and clay court tournaments – where even Wimbledon champion Serena Williams will be in action.

In Europe this week the following tournaments are taking place:
The Mercedes Cup – ATP Tournament
Location: Stuttgart, Germany
Surface: Red clay
Seeded players: Janko Tipsarevic, Juan Monaco, Bernard Tomic, Pablo Andujar, Robin Haase, Lukasz Kubot and Tommy Haas.

SkiStar Swedish Open – ATP Tournament
Location: Bastad, Sweden

Surface: Red clay
Seeded players: David Ferrer, Nicolas Almagro, Albert Ramos, Jarkko Nieminen, Mikhail Kukushkin, Grigor Dimitrov, Filippo Volandri and Adrian Ungur.

XXV Italiacom Open – WTA Tournament
Location: Palermo, Italy

Surface: Red clay
Seeded players: Sara Errani, Roberta Vinci, Julia Goerges, Anabel Medina Garrigues, Carla Suarez Navarro, Polona Hercog, Alize Cornet and Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova

Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships – ATP Tournament
Location: Newport, R.I, USA

Surface: Grass
Seeded players: John Isner, Kei Nishikori, Milos Raonic, Denis Istomin, Alex Bogomolov Jr., Ryan Harrison, Donald Young and Gilles Muller.

Bank of the West Classic – WTA Tournament
Location: Stanford, California, USA
