SkiStar Swedish Open, Bastad, Sweden – World No.5 and top seed David Ferrer beat wild card, friend and compatriot Tommy Robredo 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 today in 2 hours and 4-minutes and has booked his slot in the semi-finals of the tournament.

David Ferrer is no stranger to the tournament having lifted the trophy in 2007 and was the runner-up last year, whilst the former world No.5 has also been the champion at the tournament in 2006 and 2008 and looked to being playing well after his long time out due to injury.  It was Robredo’s first tournament this year and he looked comfortable out on the court as he stretched his compatriot to three sets of tennis before being bagelled in the third.

David Ferrer will now face Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov who today has reached his second ATP World Tour semi-final after his first last-four appearance at the AEGON Championships in June. Today he defeated third-seed Albert Ramos 7-6(1), 6-3 in one hour and 49-minutes.

Fellow Spaniard and second seed Nicolas Almagro had a tough three-set contest in his quarter-final match against compatriot Daniel Gimeno-Traver 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3 in 2 hours and 15-minutes.  The world No. 10 is through to the Bastad semi-finals for the fourth time and is former champion at the tournament, having lifted the trophy in 2010 against Soderling.

Almagro is now in the last four and is seeking to win his third ATP World Tour title of the season after being crowned champion at the Brasil Open 2012 in Sao Paulo and the Open de Nice Côte d’Azur.
