Rafael Nadal’s public relations officer Benito Perez-Barbadillo has updated the BBC about the health and physical condition of Rafael Nadal who is currently battling against an on-going problem with his knee.

Barbadillo shared some news about his client in an interview with BBC radio and he discussed his confidence in the full recovery of the popular Spaniard and his recuperation.

“Rafa is currently in Majorca. He is not happy about the situation with his knee and his withdrawal [from the US Open], but he knows it’s a necessary evil and then he finds serenity. He continues with his program of therapies and makes regular journeys to Barcelona to see his doctors. It will take time for the inflammation to disappear. He is currently at home and works at the gym as well as post photos on social networks.”

“I do not think his career is over, I remember back to 2009 and I think that this time he will return stronger than before. It is obvious, however, that the change of the surface for Rafa and his game has made a shocking impact on his knee.”

“He has a passion for tennis and even if he does not play, he follows it on TV. He and Murray are close friends, their entourage know each other well, I’m sure that he will be encouraged, as will Federer.”

“Rafa wants to return to the Davis Cup final but will declaring an exact date for the return would be premature. We await the verdict of doctors. He will return only when he is fully recovered.”

As the US Open commences this week, there will undoubtedly be many who will miss the presence of Nadal.
