After four months of absence, Gael Monfils looks ready to return. The Parisian tennis player should play next week in the Open de Moselle in Metz. After the end of a bad injury to the patella, the Frenchman seems eager to return to the circuit.

“I’m just recently back with the preparation,” said Gael, “but I have a lot of desire to play tennis, I miss it terribly. But I am trying not to be too anxious, I may put unnecessary pressure on myself. It was a blow not to play the U.S. Open. Slipping to 67 is something that can happen, that’s life. I’ll try to get back to my level, I think, it’s better than the current position in the rankings. The return will be hard, but I will not panic I am preparing well and during this period I have had much time to think. I made a little trip around the world, making photographic and video recordings. I spent days in the recording studios and I travelled around half of Europe in the car with friends and slept in tents. This allowed me to discover many countries and to feel good mentally. During the trip I always made sure that I did a couple of hours of preparation with Marc Raquil. I met him thanks to my coach, Patrick Chamagne and I would like to continue working with him. He’s amazing as a trainer and as a person and he’s doing an outstanding job.”

It is good to see that despite Gael’s disappointment with the injury, he has been able to enjoy his time out and embark on a road trip adventure with his friends!
