INDIAN WELLS – California:  Swiss duo Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka were happy to reach the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Open on Monday in Indian Wells with a tight  7-6(3), 7-6(4) victory over Ernests Gulbis and Milos Raonic, building on their singles success earlier in the day when the Swiss maestros reached the singles fourth round in California.

Federer and Wawrinka are pairing up at an ATP World Tour event for the first time since reaching the Indian Wells final three years ago where they lost to Aleksandr Dolgopolov and Xavier Malisse.

The 2008 Olympic gold medalists edged out the win against the Latvian and Canadian who were paired together for the first-time in 87 minutes.

Next up for Federer and Wawrinka are fourth seeds Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek, who defeated Jonathan Erlich and Richard Gasquet 6-3, 7-5.

Frenchmen Nicolas Mahut and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga upset seventh seeds and two-time runners-up Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic, 6-7(7), 7-6(5), 11-9 in just under two hours.
