INDIAN WELLS – California: Roger Federer is the man who will be looking to end the great tournament run of Alexandr Dolgopolov in the BNP Paribas Open semi-finals after beating Kevin Anderson 7-5, 6-1.
Former World No.1 Federer defeated No. 17 seed Anderson in straight sets, with a convincing display of performance in the second set, dropping only one game. The victory will see Federer rise up the Emirates ATP Rankings to No. 5 and is back in the Indian Wells semi-finals for the eighth time.
The South African held on strong against Federer in the first set, before succumbing to the Swiss man’s persistence, when Federer finally converted a break point after four previous attempts and took the first set 7-5.
The second set was much less competitive as Federer raced through to victory in 23 minutes, dropping only one game, before wrapping up proceedings
The Swiss maestro will be looking to claim his fifth singles title at Indian Wells and will be hoping for double bubble if he can lift the doubles trophy with friend and compatriot, Stanislas Wawrinka. The pair will compete in the semi-finals on Friday against second seeds Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares.
Last week, Federer won his 78th tour-level title at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships last week (d. Berdych).
